What are the disadvantages of polycarbonate?

Disadvantages:

  • Polycarbonate is brittle, so it can easily shatter, releasing harmful chemicals into the environment.
  • Polycarbonate is non biodegradable hence it takes many years to decompose in the environment. 
  • Polycarbonate is difficult to recycle.
  • Polycarbonate production creates pollution.
  • Polycarbonate can leach harmful chemicals into food and drinks.
  • Polycarbonate products may contain bisphenol A (BPA).
  • Polycarbonate products can release chemicals when heated.
  • Polycarbonate products can discolor over time.
  • Polycarbonate products can attract dust and dirt.
